A father-and-son company built on experience, sacrifice, and a decision to come home.

Our story

Chris started building at 19. His first house was hands-on, real-world construction. Over the years he worked across Canada, including on pipelines, and learned firsthand how projects succeed and how they fail.

Nic took a different path. After university he moved to Halifax and worked in sales for a plastics company. But something was missing. Home mattered. Family mattered. Building something real mattered.

One phone call from Nic’s Halifax apartment changed everything. “Let’s do this for real.”

Nic moved home and they started small: decks, renovations, whatever came through the door. One job turned into two, two turned into five, and soon they were hiring. What started as odd jobs became a structured company with systems, processes and standards. In 2022, that became CNJ Builders.

Why we built it differently

We kept seeing the same frustrations: unclear contracts, vague scopes, little visibility into how the job was being run, and contractors working without proper systems. So we built CNJ around the opposite.
